Bill of Materials (BOM)

In Formul, a Bill of Materials (BOM) (often called a “Recipe” in other industries) tells the system what ingredients and packaging are needed to make a product.

  1. Navigate to Manufacturing > BOMs.

  2. Click New BOM.

    BOM Editor

  3. Output Item: Select the item you are making (e.g., “Lavender Candle - 8oz”).

  4. Output Quantity: How many do you make in a standard batch? (e.g., “1” or “100”).

  5. Add Components:

    • Select the raw materials or sub-assemblies.
    • Enter the quantity needed per output batch.
  6. Scrap Factor (Optional): Enter a percentage (e.g., 0.05 for 5%) if you regularly lose material during production.

Formul supports “Russian Doll” manufacturing.

  • Example: You make a Bulk Perfume (Level 1), which goes into a Bottled Perfume (Level 2), which goes into a Case of 12 (Level 3).
  • How to set it up: simply create a separate BOM for each item. When you create a Work Order for the Case of 12, Formul knows it needs Bottled Perfume.
